Brass Plain Washers

We are leading manufacturers, suppliers, and exporters of Brass Plain Washers to ANSI, BS, and DIN Standards from our precision press shop in India. Our brass plain washers are accurately pressed flat washers used under bolt heads and nuts to distribute clamping load, protect the bearing surface of the fastened component, and provide a corrosion-resistant interface in electrical, plumbing, marine, and general mechanical assemblies. Also known as brass flat washers, brass Form A washers, brass Type A wide washers, brass narrow washers, brass light washers, brass heavy washers, brass standard washers, and brass fender washers, these components are manufactured to the precise dimensional standards of ANSI/ASME B18.22.1, BS 4320 (Forms A and B), and DIN 125, DIN 9021 (wide washer), enabling direct specification by engineers referencing these standards.
Brass plain washers are the corrosion-resistant, non-sparking, and electrically conductive alternative to steel plain washers. They are specified wherever the assembly involves copper or brass fasteners, copper pipework, or electrical connections requiring a conductive washer, or wherever the installation environment would cause steel washers to corrode and create unsightly staining or galvanic problems. In plumbing, marine joinery, electrical panel building, and architectural hardware, brass washers are the standard choice.
Standards Covered
DIN 125 (Part 1 and Part 2): The most widely referenced international flat washer standard, defining Form A (normal) and Form B (hardened) flat washers in metric sizes M1.6 to M100. Our brass plain washers are manufactured to DIN 125 Form A dimensions with the standard nominal outside diameter and thickness for each bolt size.
DIN 9021: Wide series flat washers with a significantly larger outer diameter than DIN 125, providing a greater load-bearing area for applications in soft materials. Also known as penny washers. Manufactured in metric M4 to M36 in brass.
BS 4320 Form A and Form B: British Standard plain flat washers in metric sizes, equivalent to DIN 125 in dimensions. Form A is the standard metric washer, Form B is the wide washer series (similar to DIN 9021). BS 4320 is specified in UK construction, mechanical engineering, and plumbing applications.
ANSI/ASME B18.22.1 (Type A and Type B): American National Standard for plain washers, covering Type A (preferred series with the largest O.D. available for each bolt size) and Type B (USS series for structural applications). Available in both imperial inch sizes (#6 through 3″) and metric sizes.
BS 3410: British Standard for flat washers in imperial inch sizes for bolt sizes from 3/16″ to 1.1/2″ BSW and BSF. For use with inch-thread fasteners in engineering and plumbing applications.
Types of Brass Plain Washers We Manufacture
Brass DIN 125 Form A Flat Washers (Metric): Standard metric flat washers in the normal (DIN 125A) series for M2 to M64 bolts. The most commonly specified type for general engineering and electrical applications.
Brass DIN 9021 Wide Flat Washers (Metric): Large outer diameter penny washers for use in soft and laminated materials, plastic enclosures, and timber. The enlarged bearing face prevents pull-through and surface indentation.
Brass BS 4320 Form A and Form B Washers: Metric flat washers to BS 4320 for M6 to M36, covering Form A (standard OD) and Form B (wide OD), commonly specified in UK plumbing, mechanical, and structural applications.
Brass ANSI B18.22.1 Type A Washers (Inch): Imperial inch-series flat washers for No. 6 through 3″ bolt sizes, conforming to the preferred-series ANSI Type A dimensions. Used in USA and Canada market applications and in UK/Australian equipment using imperial fasteners.
Brass Oversized (Fender) Washers: Very large outer diameter washers with a small bolt hole, providing maximum bearing area in very soft substrates. Used in wood, GRP, and foam assemblies where standard washers would pull through under load.
Brass Thick Flat Washers: Flat washers with greater-than-standard thickness for high-load applications, or where dimensional stacking or shimming is also needed from the washer in the assembly.
Dimensions and Tolerance
Our brass plain washers are manufactured to the stated standard dimensions for each bolt size. Key dimensions per DIN 125 Part 1 (Form A): Internal diameter (d1) = nominal bolt diameter + 0.1 mm (M1.6–M10) to +2.0 mm (M52–M64); Outside diameter (d2) as specified in the standard table; Thickness (h) as specified per size. Manufacturing tolerances: I.D. per the standard + tolerance; O.D. within ±0.5% or ±0.3 mm (whichever is smaller); Thickness ±10% for sizes below M12, ±8% for M12 and above. Flatness: 0.05 mm per 10 mm diameter.
Material and Surface Finish
Standard brass plain washers are pressed from CW614N (CZ121 free-cutting brass) or CW508L (CZ108 cartridge brass) strip to the thickness specified in each standard. Free-cutting brass is preferred for its consistent thickness, smooth surface, and excellent shearability on blanking press tools. Surface finish: natural bright brass as pressed (standard), electro-tinned brass, nickel-plated brass, and (on request) chrome-plated brass. Material sourced to BS EN 12163 and ASTM B121 specifications with full mill test certificates available.
Manufacturing Process
Brass plain washers are manufactured on our high-speed blanking presses using precision double-action progressive dies that simultaneously punch the inner hole and blank the outer diameter in a single press stroke. This simultaneous blanking ensures concentricity of the bore to the OD within the tight tolerances required by dimensional standards. Press speeds up to 400 strokes per minute enable high-volume production. After blanking, washers are tumble-deburred to remove any small burrs from the cut faces, then tumble-polished for a bright finish. Plating operations are performed in our in-house facility. 100% dimensional check on I.D., O.D., and thickness is performed using automated vision inspection systems and manual gauges for sample verification.
Applications
Brass plain washers are used in: electrical and electronic equipment assembly (where conductive, non-corroding washers are required under bolt heads and nuts), plumbing and heating system assembly (under brass fitting nuts and compression ring nuts), marine hardware (where stainless or brass washers replace carbon steel to prevent rust staining), joinery and furniture (decorative and functional brass washers under wood screws and bolts), architectural hardware (door furniture, window fittings, brass ironmongery), automotive electrical systems (battery, chassis earth, and accessory connections), gas fitting assemblies (non-sparking brass washers in gas meter connections), and laboratory, scientific, and cleanroom equipment assembly.
